Cyber Security Forensics – McCann Computer Forensic Investigators use cutting-edge digital forensics tools to uncover evidence from massive amounts of information. The evidence is obtained and stored using forensically sound methods, whether the source is a laptop, desktop, mobile device, or cloud storage. Fact-finding in digital data takes expertise, experience, and advanced technology. Information is most often in the form of electronically stored information, or ESI. Estimates say approximately 80% to 93% of all business information exists in electronic form as emails, documents, web content, and other electronic specific formats. Estimates also state that over 70% of content has never existed in anything other than digital form. While investigators once followed paper trails, they now follow a digital trail hidden in emails, deleted documents, smart phones, and cloud storage.

Licensed Digital Forensics Experts
Courts require that digital evidence for civil and criminal cases be obtained in a forensically sound manner. The investigator collecting the evidence must be a licensed private investigator and certified as a computer forensics examiner. In order to gain these certifications, investigators have typically undergone an extensive background check and are licensed by a government agency such as the Private Security Bureau. The proper acquisition and imaging of digital data requires extensive training and knowledge in computer forensics. Having non-licensed IT personnel attempt to collect data is always a bad idea as this places the data at risk for contamination, excluding the evidence in a civil or criminal case.
McCann Investigations is fully licensed, and has experience providing expert testimony and reports in both state and federal court cases. McCann Experts have provided key evidence in family law, fraud, embezzlement, intellectual property theft, and complex corporate litigation for both civil and criminal cases.
Our Investigators use innovative computer forensics technology to effectively extract and analyze critical data. Critical data, which provides evidence of past or current suspicious activity, is now found in text messages, emails, and various forms of digital communication including social media posts. The following activities are often included in the project scope of work:
- Recovery of Deleted Information
- Discovery of Hidden Information
- Review of Large Amounts of Email Data
- Review of metadata including download histories, unauthorized access, or attempted manipulation of data
